Introduction

The aim of this course is to provide students with a functional working knowledge of Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya, ToonBoom Animate Pro and the Adobe Production bundle.

The course is extremely comprehensive, and all the major aspects of the software are covered. This will give the learner a thorough understanding of the applications and the ability to use them in a production environment.

As these applications are extensive, learners are expected to be expected to be committed to learning and not averse to doing extra homework.

We teach various applications in order to maximize our learner's employability. The more software packages learnt, the greater the skill set the learner will have.

Specific Outcomes:

The ability to create new 3D models, apply textures, generate scene lighting, and the ability to animate these parameters. In addition, 2D animation and compositing are also covered.

Learners will have a complete understanding of the software and the workflow required to use it successfully.

Who Should Attend:

  • Aspirant 3D artists who want to work on film or commercial animation and effects
  • Industrial Design, Interior Design or Architectural graduates who would like to use 3D.

Assessment and Certification

Students are continually assessed on their skills and interest shown in class. After each Learning object, students are assigned a project which is completed and submitted for marking. Successful students will receive an internationally recognised Certificate of Completion from Autodesk for each application as well as a certificate from ToonBoom. Learners also complete a final animation project each year.

Preproduction begins in April and students spend the majority of the fourth term in production. Along with this final project, a number of additional skills are taught, including script writing, character design and development as well as time management.

Exams are written at the end of the third term. Learners are also coached on various aspects of employment, such as showreel preparation, guidelines for freelance work and client etiquette. Guest lecturers from established local and international production houses also provide insight into the industry as a whole.
