Boogertman and Partners
Boogertman and Partners swears by 3ds Max and the value it adds to their production line. The seamless integration between 3ds Max and AutoCAD contributes to a successful translation of 2D perspectives into 3D visualisations of the final product.
Boogertman and Partners is a leading architectural firm with offices throughout South Africa and recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. They have worked on many projects both locally and internationally including Soccer City and the Nasrec Precinct - Johannesburg, Stats SA - Pretoria, The Houghton - Houghton, Menlyn Maine - Menlyn, - La Balise marina - Mauritius, DohA Tower - Qatar, River Walk Office Park - Pretoria and many other impressive projects countrywide.
Avinesh cut his teeth on 3d Studio DOS before moving onto Autodesk VIZ. In 2007 he switched over to 3ds Max due to all the additional features 3ds Max offered. He currently uses VRay as his render engine but he is exploring Mental Ray as an alternative. Mental Ray's added benefits such as lighting features, the Arch Design materials and the interoperability between the two makes Mental Ray a viable choice when using 3ds Max.
Avinesh swears by 3ds Max and the value it adds to their production line. The seamless integration between 3ds Max and AutoCAD contributes to a successful translation of 2D perspectives into 3D visualisations of the final product. Avinesh and Toni both agree that incorporating 3D design visualisation tips the scales in their favour when it comes to securing contracts. A picture speaks a thousand words.
3D design visualisation also aids the designers in understanding the concept of buildings and spaces. It helps iron out design issues so decisions can be made earlier in the design process, saving time and money.
Avinesh and Toni spoke about past projects where 3ds Max played a vital role, not only in securing the project, but ensuring that the project ran smoothly.
In the Soccer City Stadium project, design visualization was taken to the maximum degree of accuracy using 3ds Max. The shape of the structure was highly complex and especially challenging to document using standard 2d methods. The resulting 3ds Max model proved precise enough so that correct drawings could issued to consultants.
Likewise, during the O.R. Tambo International Pier Development, 3ds Max proved to be a crucial tool in the design visualisation stages.
The project was to extend the Duty Free Retail Section linking it to the bus terminal as well as pier designed to accommodate the new Airbus A380. One of the problems they encountered were the numerous differing levels and how they would integrate. Modeling the entire extension in 3ds Max gave them a clearer understanding of how these levels would function. Interior design was equally important and the visualisations created in 3ds Max enabled the team and client to comprehend the spaces with more clarity.
"It was a challenging project and 3ds Max stepped up to the plate" concluded Avinesh.
